Paid Position:

Development Associate

Background on Current Activities

HOBT runs three direct mail campaigns using its in-house data base each year, an annual fund in December/January; an appeal at MayDay in March/April; and, a fiscal year-end appeal in July/August. Donors whose combined gifts in any one-year are above $250 receive special attention during these mail campaigns.

In addition, HOBT follows the Benevon model of fundraising with the goal of creating multi-year, life-long donors. Donors who pledge a minimum of $1,000 per year are culled from the general database and are tracked individually. The Benevon model includes: point of entry events, donor events and an annual ask event.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

The Development Associate is responsible for the day-to-day activities as they pertain to fundraising activities with individual donors. The person in this position will work closely with the Executive Director, Development Committee, key donors and other employees to successfully achieve annual and long-term fundraising goals from individuals.

This position will educate and inspire potential donors, grow the donor base and increase multi-year giving and major gifts.

General Duties

  • Coordinate comprehensive prospect identification rating and screening program
  • Build and maintain active relationships with assigned donors, keeping detailed records to track these relationships
  • Maintain records for all HOBT donors, assuring the integrity of the data related to individual donors
  • Manage the gift acknowledgement process including confirmations and receipts
  • Initiate and develop web-based fundraising program
  • Prepare regular analysis of retention rates, change in average gifts, creating reports that illuminate the characteristics of HOBT’s donor base (zip code sorts, gift ranges, # of donors & amount raised, etc.)
  • Attend the monthly Development Committee meeting; take and distribute meeting minutes, arrange Committee meetings as requested.

Benevon Model Related Duties

Become an expert on the Benevon fundraising model - read all three books, watch videos, subscribe to e-newsletter, participate in training available on the web, review training manuals, attend Benevon style events hosted by other local non profits (Free Arts, Bakken Museum, McPhail Center for the Arts, etc.)

Accountable for the coordination and implementation of the annual cycle of events as laid out by the Benevon model, including

  • Develop and create a monthly one-hour “Open Studio” event to introduce individuals to the work of HOBT; working with the Development Committee and others to fill the events with 10-15 participants each month and conducting phone follow up with those who attend
  • Plan and manage three donor events in the fall, winter and early spring
  • Coordinate and implement the annual ask event on the 4th Thursday of May – from the recruitment and training of Table Captains to the post event follow-up.
  • Experience and Qualification Requirements
  • Demonstrated success in one or more areas of individual development, direct experience with the Benevon model highly preferred.
  • Minimum of at least two years experience in raising money from individuals through events and direct solicitation.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • A professional demeanor, able to work successfully with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers and colleagues.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • BA/BS required.

This is an exempt half-time position through 8/31/08 and becomes an exempt full-time position on 9/1/08. The position reports to the Executive Director.

Paid Position:

Marketing and Communications Manager

General Duties & Responsibilities:

In the Heart of the Beast Puppet & Mask Theatre (HOBT) seeks a full-time Marketing and Communications Manager. This position is responsible for all public communications, publications, brand management, advertising, media relations and public relations activities that support programs such as the annual MayDay Parade & Festival, performance work and educational activities of HOBT.

Primary Activities:

  • Develop & implement annual marketing & communication plan
  • Create all marketing collateral and promotional materials for events and programs
  • Cultivate, establish and maintain all media relationships with print and broadcast media partners
  • Update HOBT web site text and graphics to keep the site fresh and current
  • Produce regular electronic communications directed at HOBT audiences, donors, volunteers and others interested or involved with our work
  • Manage all design and print vendor relationships – including existing relationships with graphic and web designers
  • Oversee the marketing and communications budget, track & report against goals for each program or project
  • Staff the Marketing Committee comprised of board members and volunteers.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of marketing/communications and PR experience, including marketing strategy
  • Outstanding written and verbal skills and the ability to translate an artistic vision and artist-created graphics into print, media and web materials
  • Experience in branding and Web 2.0 highly preferred
  • Excellent skills in project and time management
  • Vendor relationship management skills and experience
  • Ability to think strategically and tactically
  • Bachelor’s degree and experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required.
